The basics
What is the West Coast Long Drive? +
It's a Western Australian charity drive run in the spirit of the Queensland-based Long Drive for Drought. 40 Series LandCruiser owners convoy from Perth to Exmouth Gulf via the Wheatbelt, Mid-West and Gascoyne over eight days, raising funds for Farm Angels — a registered charity supporting Australian farming families.
When is the inaugural drive? +
The inaugural West Coast Long Drive runs from 3 to 11 October 2026. Eight days, nine nights, Perth to Exmouth Gulf via the Wheatbelt, Mid-West and Gascoyne. Register your interest below and we'll send through the participant page closer to the event.
Is this the same event as Long Drive for Drought (QLD)? +
No — they're separate, independently-run events. The QLD event has been running since 2020 and inspired this WA version. Both events support Farm Angels (formerly Drought Angels) and share a 40 Series LandCruiser theme, but West Coast Long Drive is a WA initiative.
Fundraising
What's the minimum fundraising amount, and why? +
The minimum is $500 per participant. The whole point of the event is to raise meaningful funds for farmers — this floor ensures every team takes that seriously. There's no upper limit, and most teams raise well above the minimum.
Where does the money go? +
100% of funds raised go to Farm Angels, a registered charity providing direct, personalised support to Australian farming families affected by drought, floods, fires and other natural disasters. Participants pay their own way for fuel, food, and accommodation — no fundraising dollars are spent on running the event.
Are donations tax-deductible? +
Donations to Farm Angels go through their registered charity status. Tax receipts are issued by Farm Angels directly through the official fundraising platform — confirm with your accountant for personal circumstances. Sponsorship arrangements are handled separately.
How do I set up my fundraising page? +
Once your registration is confirmed, you'll receive a link to set up your individual or team fundraising page through Farm Angels' nominated platform. Pages are typically live around 4–6 months out from the drive.
Vehicles
Does my Cruiser have to be a 40 Series? +
The West Coast Long Drive is a 40 Series LandCruiser themed event. Other classic Cruisers (60s, 75s, 78s) may be considered on a case-by-case basis — particularly for support vehicles and for first-timers travelling from interstate. Get in touch before registering.
Does my 40 Series need to be in good condition? +
It needs to be in roadworthy, reliable condition. You don't need a show-quality rig — a well-loved working 40 Series is exactly the spirit. But you do need to be confident it'll handle 3,000 km of mixed sealed and unsealed WA roads without leaving you stranded. If you're unsure, reach out and we'll talk it through.
Is there mechanical support on the convoy? +
Yes, a support vehicle and a couple of experienced 40 Series mechanics travel with the convoy. They'll help with roadside fixes and minor repairs — but you should bring your own basic spares (belts, hoses, fluids, common consumables) and be prepared for self-recovery on remote sections.
On the road
What do I need to bring? +
You'll need to be largely self-sufficient: camping gear (tent, swag or rooftop tent), spare parts and recovery gear suitable for the WA outback, and enough cash to spend in the towns we visit.
Can I bring my dog or my caravan? +
No to dogs — we travel through private properties and national parks where dogs aren't permitted. We are trying to limit caravans and campers unless absolutely necessary. The convoy works best when everyone is in tents, swags, or rooftop campers.
Can I bring my partner / family / mate as a passenger? +
Absolutely. Each registration covers a vehicle and crew. Passengers are welcome — we just ask that everyone in the rig understands the self-sufficient camping nature of the event and that the fundraising minimum is per registered vehicle, not per person.
What if I can only do part of the drive? +
The event is designed to run as a complete convoy from start to finish. Partial-leg participation isn't typically offered, but get in touch to discuss your situation — there may be options for sponsor vehicles or supporters joining specific overnight stops.
